The Big Data and Social Computing Lab at the University of Illinois Chicago is led by Philip S. Yu, Distinguished Professor and Wexler Chair in Information Technology.
Our research has long centered on data mining, heterogeneous information networks, and social computing. Today that work extends to large language models and the agents built on them: agent memory and self-evolving agents, agentic retrieval-augmented generation and deep research, human-agent collaboration, and LLM-driven recommender systems. Running through all of it is the question of what makes such systems trustworthy: hallucination, safety, watermarking, and uncertainty quantification. We also continue to build foundations in graph learning, generative models for structured data, and time series.
